Workwear
Workwear is clothing worn by employees to protect their own clothing in the context of the work to be performed. Workwear is not prescribed by law.
Each worker decides for himself whether he wears certain workwear at work.
Workwear also includes professional clothing, official clothing and protective clothing.
Many companies have introduced workwear to underline the recognition value of the company. The aim is to create a "we" feeling among the employees with the workwear. At the same time, employees of the company should also be recognised externally. In this context, workwear is mostly practical and robust. The special clothing is provided by the employer - if it is prescribed - for the duration of the employment relationship.
Who covers the cost of workwear?
An interesting question for employees is how the costs for workwear are covered. Normally there is an agreement between the employer and the employee.
Either the employee procures the clothing himself or the employer takes over the procurement and offsets the costs against the payment of remuneration. In some cases, employers also provide the clothing at no cost to the employee. In this case, however, the clothing does not become the employee's property. After termination of the employment relationship, the clothing is returned to the employer. In some cases, there is an option to deduct the cost of the clothing from tax as an employee. However, this does not apply to clothing according to a prescribed dress code.
EN 14404
The EN 14404 standard specifies the minimum values for the dimensions of the protective zones and the mechanical requirements for puncture resistance or comfort requirements. There must be no edges or seams or other irregularities on the inside of the product that could cause harm to the user during normal use.
