CLO value
The Clo value is a unit of measurement that describes the insulation value of clothing in terms of thermal resistance. A Clo of 1 means that a person can survive comfortably at rest in an environment with a temperature of 21°C and a humidity of 50% without feeling cold. The higher the Clo value, the greater the thermal insulation of the clothing.
Originally, the Clo value was used in the EN 342 standard to determine the thermal performance of cold protective clothing. This allowed for the comparison of different garments and materials to assess which ones are best suited for specific cold environments.
Changes in the EN 342 standard:
In newer versions of EN 342, the Clo value is no longer used. Instead, the decision has been made to use Icler (Insulation Value with Movement). This value provides a more accurate determination of the insulation properties of cold protective clothing under various conditions.
