The food logistics sector focuses on logistics in the food market. The food logistics sector is one of the most important economic sectors in Germany. Since groceries are very sensitive goods, reliability and speed are of the utmost importance in food logistics. This requires optimal gear such as clothing, protection and the right tools.
The food logistics deals with the logistical operations of food distribution.
In the area of food logistics, there are basic hygiene requirements for the production, handling and placing on the market of food. These are regulated in EU Regulation No. 852/2004 on the hygiene of foodstuffs and in Regulation No. 853/2004 with specific hygiene regulations for food of animal origin.
The obligation to train staff handling primary and processed products on health risks and food hygiene issues is also prescribed. These regulations are intended to ensure the flawless quality of food from production to delivery to the consumer in food logistics.
Who does the regulation apply to?
Food business operators involved in the primary production of food logistics must comply with the general hygiene requirements of Regulation No. 852/2004 Annex 1. These ensure in particular the protection of primary products from contamination and contaminant residues in food logistics.
Are there guidelines that food business operators have to follow?
In order to be able to legally comply with all requirements in food logistics, food business operators (with the exception of primary production) must comply with the principles of the HACCP concept through operational self-checks.
The HACCP concept is the systematic approach we use to ensure safe food in food logistics. The task of the concept is to consider hazards associated with the processing of food or emanating from finished products and to assess risks.
What do I need workwear for?
In the food industry and logistics, the wearing of work clothing is often very strictly defined. Especially in the bakery, meat & sausage, fishery, cheese & dairy, fruit & vegetable and cold storage sectors, the right clothing is of great importance. It serves as protection for the body.
